Extreme weather events such as heavy rain, heatwaves and storms are becoming increasingly frequent as a result of climate change. They are not only damaging our planet’s various earth systems, but also pose a risk to our individual health – even today and right on our doorstep. One heat record has been chasing another for years. Bavarian cities are also increasingly suffering from periods of heat, which bring with them particularly hot days and tropical nights.
A heat emergency call in Augsburg – what happened? With the help of an interactive exhibition element in the style of an “investigation game” with various objects and clues, find out how the emergency call came about and what we can do about the health risks of heat stress in the city. The exhibition space in the Umweltbildungszentrum Augsburg (UBZ) is open to the public free of charge from May 13 to August 8, 2025 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. The investigation game is suitable for all detectives aged 14 and over.
The element is part of an exhibition on the topic of “Planetary Health” to be shown at the Deutsches Museum München in 2026, which is being developed in cooperation with the Munich Science Communication Lab (MSCL). Individual interactive elements, such as the heat emergency call game, will be tested in advance as prototypes and the knowledge gained in this way will flow directly into the further development of the exhibition elements and content.
